Bosko Video is proud to announce the release of
the first tape in our
"Flip The Frog" series. We will be releasing five
volumes in this
historical retrospective of
the Ub Iwerks Studios.
All 38 cartoons made
will be presented for your
viewing pleasure. They
were all made in the
early 1930's, prior to the
enforcement of the "Hollywood Code", which means
that they contain slightly
suggestive gags, ethnic stereotypes and an
occasional "Damn!" from one
of the toons. These
cartoons are licensed
from the copyright owner,
and we are the ONLY company that will
be
releasing ALL of these
animated classics.
As is our custom, all of
these tapes are duplicated in SP speed in
Hi-Fi.
The films are also slightly
window-boxed to avoid overscan picture
loss.
These films are invaluable
to colleges, universities and film
students.
With the ever-growing
interest in animation and animation art
collecting,
this series of animated
classics appeals to a large
audience.

REVIEWS
The first cartoon was
produced in two-strip Cinecolor, and marked the
debut of Iwerks' new cartoon
creation, Flip The Frog.
The second film on
this collection includes an
atmospheric musical score by Carl W.
Stalling,
similar to his music for
Disney's SKELETON DANCE.
The quality of the
animation and background
detail equals Disney's output of the period.
Early
in 1931, Flip's cartoon
world underwent another stylistic change.
Iwerks
hired veteran Fleischer
animators Grim Natwick, Jimmy (Shamus) Culhane,
and Bernie Wolf. Their more gag-orientated
approach seemed to be just
what the Flip shorts
needed. Iwerks gave
Flip a dog sidekick in PUPPY
LOVE and a girlfriend in one
of the best FLip cartoons, FUNNY FACE.
Also
included on the tape is an
astonishing cartoon called A CHINAMAN'S
CHANCE.
Several of the cartoons on
this tape have ingenious effects, and
are
technically every bit as
good as any other cartoons of the time.
THE
COMPLETE ADVENTURES OF FLIP
THE FROG is the best collection of
Flip
cartoons on the market
today, and even video purists will be happy
with
the picture quality. Check it out. I highly recommend
it.

Worth - STORYBOARD MAGAZINE
This is the first of
five volumes of Ub Iwerks' attempts to create his own
Mickey Mouse. Iwerks is remembered for his
animation on the early Mickeys
and his technical wizardry
as a film producer. He
had a talented staff who
managed to create a few
memorable shorts. Among
them were Grim Natwick,
Shamus Culhane, Frank
Tashlin and future Warner Brothers music director,
Carl W. Stalling, who
defected with Iwerks from the Disney Studio. Also
on the staff was a young
Chuck Jones, whose job it was to wash the drawings
off of the animation cels so
that they could be reused later. This release
marks the video debut of
Flip, whose films have not been available since the
early 1950's and is
consistently one of animation's forgotten stars. Like
most releases from Bosko
Video, this edition is letterboxed. The prints
used are from the best
available sources and easily surpasses any previous
Ub Iwerks collections. For students of animation
and collectors who have
never seen a Flip the Frog
cartoon or anything else from the Ub Iwerks
Studio, this tasteful
collection is a good place to
start.
